Mike Mike, Well, I hate to criticize people on their views, but I must state my opinion on your PFFT! that you entered on November 7th. Yes, Illinois almost passed it, and then you say it is scary? I beg to differ for many reasons. If IL passed this, those illegal immigrants are able to obtain Linceses and Insurances, becuase people still get screwed when an Illegal Immigrant hits them. This would alliviate that. Secondly, another way this would increase safety on the roads by having these Immigrants pass a bar. If they pass the status quo, we know that they are somewhat able to drive, correct? This would also boost the economy, DMV revenue would increase, 250,000 immigrants multiply that by the insane charges that DMV implements? I think the gov't might have some change in their pockets along with the Insurance companies. One last thought, you can't send immigrants back. It is not a good move, even republicans know that, who else is going to work in the fields for chump change? If Americans worked in the fields, a single strawberry would become the price of an avocado. P.S. I don't feel so strong in this topic because I am an Illegal Immigrant, it is because it makes sense.

You're welcome to differ all you want, sir. The solution isn't to make sure that illegal immigrants (which isn't a proper noun, by the way) have insurance. It's to make sure people don't immigrate illegally. A few problems with your logic: - There are far more than 250,000 illegal immigrants within the U.S. right now. - Secretary of State (there is no DMV in Illinois - the Secretary of State's Office administers driving programs) revenue has no impact on the economy; it is a governmental entity. We absolutely can send immigrants back - THAT would boost the economy. It'd force employers to pay mandated legal wages to U.S. citizens who would then turn and put that money into the economy. Best of luck.

Hi Mike, There are actually 8 to 12 million illegal immigrants, but in Illinois there are 250,000 of them, the article that you hyperlinked stated. People will always migrate here illegally. Student visas will expire, tourist visas (they are once again up since 9-11) will have people overstay their welcome. American Dream anyone? People will come here for decades to come, to strive for the American Dream. I know many people that have, and many more people that will in due time. I don't know much about Illionis and their system of doing things, but here in California where they too are trying to pass this law, it is mandatory for drivers to have Insurance. The illegal immigrants will need to goet insurance. Since there is close to 2.3 million illegal immigrants, that is a HUGE boost for the Insurance company. That means increased profits for the companies. Last time I checked, profits are good!!! Yes, mandated legal wages are excellent, but when I speak of not being able to send Immigrants back, I mean that these guys are the ones out in the fields working for the cheap fruit prices that we pay. If we send the immigrants back, who will work out in the fields for us? Americans exploit labor workers because they are vunerable, and that's why we can't send them back. Who would we exploit? Americans? no, they would want 6.75 an hour if they were to pick strawberries. What American would work outside in the heat if they could work at Starbucks and get all the coffee they would like? Seems like you are a supply-side supporter. Good theory. Merry Christmas (Don't call the ACLU on me now!) P.S. Sorry it took me so long to respond, I thought I was going to receive an e-mail from you. Didn't check the comment page!

I take offense at your assuming that Americans have to have someone to enslave. Illegal immigration is not an inevitability, but something we choose to take lightly for the exact reason you state: cheap ass labor. However, that is not a reason to give people who don't have the legal right to be here the legal right to drive. Period. If you drive, and are illegal, thus not having a license, we arrest you and send your ass home. ...that's how it -should- be. As for how it is, well, you summarize it quite well. I don't see the need for us to be digging ourselves into a deeper hole. See, you say that illegal immigrants need licenses for insurance so legal residents receive compensation when accidents occur. I say if we arrest and deport 'em all, we'll have less of those accidents in the long run anyway. Same end, different means. :) Merry Christmas to you as well. ;-)
