Road Kill

August 22, 2002

Thanks for the Info

On my commute to work this morning, there were two situations that would have been averted (for me) if I had known about them before hand.

For the past couple of weeks, the middle lane of a road I take part of the way has been closed. It's three lanes in either direction, so there's a big blinking arrow that directs drivers to the left or right lane. Since the right lane is always slow due to people who need to drop down to 2mph to turn off, and those who pull out in front of others, I took the left lane. At the bottom of a hill (which I could not see from the initial split) a work crew's truck was parked in the left lane. So I had to merge, at the last minute, into the right lane. I had people who jump in at the last minute, but in this case, I couldn't help it. I'm going to consider not taking that road til they're done working on it, which should be able 8 months from now, at the rate these guys work.

The other place was a traffic light on another light that was staying green about 12 seconds for the way I was going, and about 3 minutes for the other way. So I was at this light for 6 or 7 cycles. Just now, when I got to work, I heard a traffic report that mentioned the light at this intersection was malfunctioning. Gee, thanks. I don't suppose that would have been good to know 30 minutes ago?!?

PFFT for not knowing things in advance that would save me, and by extension, everyone else some time in morning rush hour traffic.
