Some Thoughts for the New Year

First off, Happy New Year. I've been a little slower than anticipated in getting a new editorial out. Sorry. The holidays went pretty much as expected. Got some nice gifts, gave some nice gifts, and my parents are likely to read this nowadays so I have to mind my manners. Seriously, I had a great time, and enjoyed seeing everyone, although it was really cold.

As to the category of this article, I have a couple of thoughts that apply. First, I think I've already recommended "Alias" as quality Sunday evening television. Tonight they dropped the bombshell that Sydney's mother was the KGB agent instead of her father. Come on now, anyone who's been watching the show had this figured out weeks ago. I really hope the writers have some more twists in mind behind this, otherwise I might have given them too much credit.

I saw the first "Lord of the Rings" movie. It was great. I read the book in December specifically because I wanted to read it before I saw it because if the movie was at all flawed I would pick up on it better this way. The movie wasn't really flawed. Go see it, it was terrific. This was the movie that Episode I should have been, if George Lucas had any loyalty to his vision left in his greedy little mind. Speaking of Lucas, did you hear N'Sync has a cameo in Episode II? Fortunately we only have to wait 8 months for the "Fellowship of the Ring" DVD, and 4 months after that for "The Two Towers," the second movie in the trilogy. You suppose we'll ever see original Star Wars or Indiana Jones DVDs? Not until Lucas is sure he can go "Bwahahahahaha! I am the richest man in the world. Bwahahahahah!"

Pac-10 football is seriously overrated. Big 12 football is also apparently overrated, although I am not happy to admit this. SEC is so-so. I just have to say that although Miami won the national championship, this in no way changes anything about the conference more correctly known as the Big Least.
