Why are there so many digital cameras to choose from?

Ok all I want is a nice easy digital camera without all the bells and whistles. So I check out all the web sites on these cameras and you have like 100 styles for each manufacturer. And the reviews! For every 50 good there are 50 bad reviews on the same camera. PFFFFFFFFFFFFT!!

Why can't they make a nice simple digital camera that doesn't cost you a fortune and you do not have to be a rocket scientist to figure out and is compatible with everyone's computer out there?

I say triple pfffffffffffffffffft!
